Effect of ACE Inhibitors and ARBs on GFR

angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) are Drugs that inhibit angiotensin they exert a vasodilatory effect on the efferent arteriole leading to a reduction in glomerular pressure and filtration fraction.

They have a great value in the treatment of :

1- diabetic nephropathy 2-congestive heart failure 3- help to reduce proteinuria and convey renal protection in proteinuric kidney disease.

Danger Point !!!!!!

they may increase the risk of prerenal Acute Kidney Injury as well as hyperkalemia during periods of hypotension and hypoperfusion so there use is held in the hospital only after identification of AKI
